Today fellow baldies, we celebrate Howard Cosell, a man who was bigger than the bald. A man who was so outspoken; so game-changing in his field; so confident and unapologeticly awesome; that he went bald and then wore a very obvious toupee…and flat out admitted it. I know, I usually poop all over anyone who tries to cover up their baldness with a hair piece, but when you readily admit to wearing one, it’s almost like you’re just wearing a hat. You see, the problem with most wig-wearers is that they cover their baldness because of a lack of confidence; someone like legendary sportscaster Cosell though, he just preferred himself with hair, so he he wore some. Granted, when his toupee accidentally got torn off during a post-fight scuffle, he covered up, but I like to think he was just trying to protect the integrity of his broadcast; you know, the people paid for a guy with hair, so he wanted them to get a guy with hair. With his pull-no-punches style and attitude of “I’m just telling it like it is”, Cosell changed the way people report on sports, and he did it without a full head of hair; so it’s with great pride that we present him with a posthumous Bald Medal of Honor.
